Latin Lyrics / ラテン語詩

Stabat Mater dolorósa
iuxta Crucem lacrimósa,
dum pendébat Fílius.
Cuius ánimam geméntem,
contristátam et doléntem,
pertransívit gládius.

O, quam tristis et afflícta
fuit illa benedícta
Mater Unigéniti!
Quæ mærébat et dolébat,
pia Mater, dum vidébat
nati pœnas incliti.

Quis est homo, qui non fleret,
Matrem Christi si vidéret
in tanto supplício?
Quis non posset contristári
Christi Matrem contemplári
doléntem cum Fílio?

Pro peccátis suæ gentis
vidit Iesum in torméntis,
et flagéllis súbditum.
Vidit suum dulcem Natum
moriéndo desolátum,
dum emísit spíritum.

Eia Mater, fons amóris,
me sentíre vim dolóris
fac, ut tecum lúgeam.
Fac, ut árdeat cor meum
in amándo Christum Deum,
ut sibi compláceam.

Sancta Mater, istud agas:
crucifíxi fige plagas
cordi meo válide.
Tui nati vulneráti,
tam dignáti pro me pati,
pœnas mecum dívide.

Fac me tecum pie flere,
crucifixo condolére,
donec ego víxero.
Iuxta Crucem tecum stare,
et me tibi sociáre
in planctu desídero.

Virgo vírginum præclára,
mihi iam non sis amára;
fac me tecum plángere.
Fac ut portem Christi mortem,
passiónis fac consórtem,
et plagas recólere.

Fac me plagis vulnerári,
fac me Cruce inebriári
et cruóre Fílii.
Flammis ne urar succénsus,
per te, Virgo, sim defénsus
in die iudícii.

Christe, cum sit hinc exíre,
da per Matrem me veníre
ad palmam victóriæ.
Quando corpus moriétur,
fac ut ánimæ donétur
Paradísi glória.

Amen.

English Translation / 英語訳

The pained, tearful mother
stood adjoining the cross
while the Son hung [thereon].
[The Son] whose soul groaning,
greatly saddened and in pain,
a sword had gone through.

Oh, how sad and afflicted
has been that blessed
Mother of the one-begotten [son]!
The pious Mother who mourned
and was pained while she saw
the penalties of [her] very famous offspring.

Who is the human who would not weep,
if he should see the mother of Christ
in so much duress?
Who would not be able to be greatly saddened
to contemplate the Mother of Christ
in pain with [her] Son?

For the sins of his folk
she has seen Jesus in tortures
and beaten down by lashes.
She has seen her sweet offspring
dying, desolate,
while He has sent out [his] spirit.

Ho, Mother, fountain of love,
make me to sense the force of pain,
so that I may sorrow with you.
Make [it] so that my heart may be ardent
in loving Christ, the God,
so that I may be pleasing to Him.

Holy Mother, may you act such [a thing]:
affix well the beatings of the crucified one
in my heart.
Of your wounded offspring,
so worthy to suffer for me,
divide the punishment with me.

Make me to weep piously with you,
to be greatly pained for the crucified one,
whilst I will have lived.
I long to stand adjoining the cross
with you, and to associate myself
with you in [your] breast-beating.

Most illustrious virgin of virgins,
already let you not be sour to me;
make [me] to beat my breast with you.
Make [it] so that I may carry the death of Christ,
make [me] a sharer of [His] passion,
and [make me] to recultivate [His] beatings.

Make me to be wounded by [His] beatings,
Make me to be drunk by the cross
and by the gore of the Son.
Lest I burn by flames kindled from below,
let me be defended through you, Virgin,
on the day of judgment.

Christ, when it is [for me] to go out hence,
give me to come, through [your] Mother,
to the palm of victory.
When [my] body dies,
make [it] so that the glory of paradise
is given to [my] soul.

Amen.
