1. A Whale in the Blue Sky
A window glass under the blue sky
reflects my shining smile.
Beyond the window,
a white whale swims in the middle of the sky.
Under the sun, the whale starts to sing
gently and freely with the wind.
He is waiting there for me to sing,
always smiling in the light.
Ringing through the blue sky,
the whale’s song jumps over any waves. See?
When I take a deep breath,
I will sing with the whale in the blue sky.
Even when I am sad, encounter difficulties,
or shed tears...
No matter how bad the weather is,
the whale in my heart sings to me.
When we pour our feeling into a song,
we all would like to do it— I’m sure —with big smiles.
My whale is always waiting
for my courage to pour out from an ocean within.
The whale in the sky smiles
at the song expanding in my heart.
When I take a deep breath,
I will sing with the whale in the blue sky.
I will sing proudly to the blue sky.
2. A Dreaming Jellyfish
Somewhere in an ocean,
alone, drifting with the waves,
a jellyfish is dreaming.
“I dream...”
I dream that one day
I shall sing my feeling—
using my own voice—
and I shall swim toward the future
with my own hands pushing any waves to come.
But... Even when a group of dolphins happily sings
in the waves next to me,
I can’t do anything.
Even when seabirds freely sing
in the wind over me,
all that I can do is drift.
Why?
Why don’t I have my own voice?
I can sing only in my dream,
not even being able to communicate my sadness.
Somewhere in an ocean,
alone, drifting with the waves…
I dream.
Even though what I dream for would not come to be.
But if I could make
my own feeling into a song and sing it,
I would like to sing it in a way
that could be heard
by all around the world.
3. Winds of Courage
The time has come!
The time of departure to the ocean.
Finally!
Now that we have calmed our beating hearts
by taking a deep breath,
let’s sail forward!
Forward!
I wonder how vast the Seven Seas are.
Does a coral reef truly shine?
I want to feel the deep redness of the sunset.
I want to gaze at the night sky full of stars.
And I want to go beyond the horizon
that someone has defined.
Now, let’s sail forward without looking back!
With all our energies facing tomorrow!
Feeling winds of courage in our hearts,
let’s sail forward!
Why and
for what have we shed tears until now?
That’s right!
All those tears are

この曲を歌うみなさんへのメッセージ （New Chorus Selectionより、抜粋）
みんなの心の中に広がる想像力は、どこまでも広く深い海のようなものです。そして、みんなはその海から気持ちや想いを外の世界へと伝えながら生活しています。この合唱組曲「心の海へ」の３曲は、そんな「自分の中の海」の物語や、そこに住んでいるかもしれない生き物たちのことをボクなりにまとめた歌です。
みんなにとって、「自分の想いを伝える」ということはカンタンなことですか？…昔より、少しずつ難しくなっているかもしれません。そうであれば、この曲が、「自分の想いを伝える」ための勇気がわいてくるような歌に、そうでなければ「表現をする勇気やエネルギー」を全力でこめられる歌になれば、ボクはとてもうれしいです。
『組曲の全体のアドバイス』 （New Chorus Selectionより、抜粋）
作詞家や作曲家が自分の作品に持つ考え、というものは、本当に千差万別なのですが、私が歌を作詞作曲をするときに大切にしていることは、以下の４点です。
１．歌詞は、話し言葉で書きたい。
２．色や動き、情景など、より立体的なイメージをもつ言葉を選びたい。
３．言葉がもつ自然なイントネーションやアクセントが生きる曲にしたい。
４．音だけ独立させても覚えやすく素敵だなと思える曲にしたい。
以上のような考えを持つに至ったのは、私が、舞台や映画、ナレーションや朗読、脚本制作といった分野でも活動していること、音楽を本格的に始めたのが米国留学時で、言葉と音楽それぞれの可能性と限界を肌で感じたことが大きく影響しています。
さて、本作品を作るにあたり、柱としたのは「海」「表現」「勇気」の３つです。「海」は、想像力の源で、なんとなく感じてはいるが全体を把握できない「心」、そして「自分の心を表現する」には「勇気がいる」というテーマを核としたイメージや物語が、歌い手である子供たちの話し言葉、または演じることになる「役」がもつ気持ちとともに、親しみやすいメロディーと分かりやすい楽曲形式上で展開していく構成をとっています。
以上の点を踏まえ、私としては、皆さんがこの楽曲の練習や演奏を通して、以下の点を達成できると嬉しく思います。
１．その歌詞（セリフ）が自然にでてきて歌になるような気持ちの盛り上がりを持てた。
２．言葉がもっているイメージや動きを、声だけでなく体全体をつかって表現できた。
３．より自然に、より生き生きと分かりやすく伝わる言葉の発音や体の表現を工夫した。
４．日本語を分からない人にも、素敵な演奏だな、と思ってもらえた。
以上のことを踏まえながら、楽曲に取り組んでいったとき、テンポやダイナミクスなど、指定のものより素敵で皆さんにピッタリなものが見つかるかもしれません。そのときは、どうぞ！皆さんの選択と表現に自信をもって、その表現を選んでください。
音楽は、大部分の人にとっては再現芸術、つまり、他の誰かが作った道筋を自分なりにたどりながら音で芸術表現を行う行為です。この合唱組曲が、音楽、その中でも自分に最も近い楽器、ある意味自分そのものである「声」をつかう合唱活動を楽しく行うきっかけとなり、子供たちが自分の気持ちや考えを、より自然に、豊かに、自信をもって表現できるようになる手助けをすることができれば、こんなに幸せなことはありません。
about the Commission and the Premiere
This work was commissioned by the Zennihon Gassyo Fukyukai, and the premiere was done by Hamamatsu Lionet Chidren's Chorus at Ginza Yamaha Hall (Tokyo, Japan) on 5/5, 2014.
委嘱・初演に関して
この作品は全日本合唱普及会の委嘱作品です。初演は2014年5月5日に、銀座ヤマハホールにで、浜松ライオネット児童合唱団により演奏されました。
訂正 (Errata)
